HAIN ROOM

The Hain Steamship Company was formally incorporated as a public company in 1901, but traces its roots back to 1816 when an ambitious father and son bought a share in the fishing lugger, Dasher.

On the ground floor of the St. Ives Museum you can see the original Pilchard Fish Curing Cellar.

MINING

The Mining Industry in and around St. Ives thrived in the 18th century when Cornwall was the mining centre of the world. Relive the hayday and witness the downfall of Cornwall's most lucrative industry with our interactive and informative displays.

FISHING

For many centuries the silver harvest of the sea was the main industry and lifeblood of St. Ives

CRYSEDE

The Crysede company was started by Alec George Walker in the upper room of a small cottage adjoining Myrtle Cottage in Newlyn before moving to a larger premises on Island Road in St. Ives in 1926.

THE RAILWAY

By the 1860's most of Cornwall's most important towns were connected to the capital by rail but St. Ives remained isolated, with the nearest station being in Hayle.
